Laptops and gaming
Laptops are good for one thing: mobility. Gaming is NOT compatible with mobility.
Laptops have slow hard drives, they max out at very small sizes compared to desktop units, and usually run on a very slow interface.
Laptops have limited graphics capabilities. More often then not they do not have their own dedicated memory for the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). They usually SHARE memory with the rest of the system. This leads to massive slowdowns. Not to mention the GPUs inside laptops are jokes compared to budget chips for desktops.
Laptop CPUs are slower compared to desktop chips. This is so they can run cooler and consume less power.
Laptops can BARELY be upgraded. You can replace the hard drive and ram, that’s it. No new CPU, no new graphics, barely anything. Something fails? Most likely the WHOLE unit must be replaced.
Why am I whining so much? Because I hear people all the time bitching that their laptops aren’t fast, and they can’t play games well. NO SHIT. If you wanna play games, get a real computer. If you wanna do video editing, get a real computer. If you wanna take your office with you when you leave, get a laptop.
Oh, and lastly, let’s not forget the heat. Those laptops that can run games decently, weigh a ton and generate so much heat it’ll burn your legs off.
But seriously. Enjoy those gaming laptops that won’t last more than a year while my bitchin’ PC’s GPU can do more than your whole laptop could ever dream of doing.
